Professional development is the key to ensuring that employees have the knowledge and skills needed for the highest quality Queensland state schools.
The Professional Development and Leadership Institute is a dedicated team within Professional Development Branch which acts as a one-stop shop for information on professional development programs and incentives for school leaders and teachers. The Institute actively promotes the benefits that ongoing professional development brings to teacher professionalism and effective school leadership.
The Institute team liaises with principals' networks and associations, professional associations, universities and other government organisations to enable teachers and school leaders to make informed choices when planning and accessing professional development related to key departmental priorities, team and individual work requirements, and career aspirations.
The Institute also ensures consistent and coordinated approaches for professional development initiatives delivered or managed by the Department of Education, Training and the Arts business units for teachers and school leaders.
The Institute promotes effective approaches to professional development and ensures alignment of professional development initiatives with the Department's professional standards/capabilities frameworks for teachers and school leaders - the Professional Standards for Teachers and Leadership Matters: Leadership capabilities for Education Queensland principals.
Teacher quality and school leadership are significant determinants of students' learning outcomes. Professional development enables our staff to give students the best chance at achieving quality learning outcomes.
