Welcome to the Department of Education, Training and the Arts Annual Report 2006-07. It provides information on the Department's achievement, and activities, as well as financial and non-financial performance for the period of 1 July 2006 to June 30 2007.
The new Department of Education, Training and the Arts was created in 2006-07, providing a unique opportunity to improve the interaction between the education, training and arts sectors for the benefit of all Queenslanders.
The Department's Annual Report showcases the exceptional work and commitment of over 86,000 staff and volunteers in delivering high-quality education, training and arts services. The report plays an important role in fulfilling the Department's commitment to accountability and transparency and forms an essential part of our performance framework.
Under the Smart State agenda, the Government has identified a range of Community Outcomes that all Government services are to achieve. The Department of Education, Training and the Arts has a primary role in supporting the whole-of-Government Community Outcomes of: a strong, diversified economy; a community of well-skilled and knowledgeable people; and a fair, socially cohesive and culturally vibrant society.

The Shared Services Initiative is a whole-of-Government approach to corporate services delivery, which aims to provide high-quality, cost-effective corporate support services across the Queensland Government. It is underpinned by standard business processes, consolidated technology and the pooling of resources and expertise.
