Money Made Simple - financial literacy and what it can do for you

Being able to make the most of our finances is a valuable life-skill. In recent times we've all heard about or experienced the effects of the property boom, increasing personal debt, and interest rate rises.

It can be confusing to make sense of how money works, and we can all benefit from simple and clear information on financial matters.

That's why the Department of Education, Training and the Arts in partnership with QSuper has developed the Money made simple financial literacy seminars for all departmental staff.

These free 2-hour seminars will be conducted around Queensland throughout 2007, and for areas where seminars aren't available, a DVD will be sent out to each school, TAFE, and district office.

Each seminar will give attendees valuable information on:

  1. Getting started: understanding Australian debt; preparing a budget; consolidating your debt; repaying your mortgage; and developing your goals.
  2. Getting serious: having a savings goal; understanding compound interest; understanding the risk/return trade-off; protecting your assets; and maximising your super.
  3. Getting ready: determining whether you're on track; understanding your retirement options; knowing about the proposed super rules; and being responsible.

The seminars will be delivered throughout Queensland during 2007. Visit the QSuper External Link website to view the schedule and book a seminar.
