Teaching salaries in the Department of Education, Training and the Arts are based on the Teachers' Award - State and Teachers' Determination 2000. Salaries are determined by years of service, qualifications and promotional level

Each step on the pay scale is equivalent to a full year's teaching service.
After nine years of full-time service, a teacher is eligible to become a full-time teacher. This position is subject to conditions under the Senior Teacher Agreement.
Remuneration Services (QLD) Pty Ltd has been contracted to administer the salary packaging scheme. All information on the scheme, procedures for participation and the necessary application forms are available as MSWord or Adobe.pdf documents from the Remuneration Services website. It is the responsibility of the employee to read all the salary packaging documentation prior to entering into a salary packaging agreement.

Permanent and temporary teachers must contribute between 2% and 5% of their salary per year.
The Department of Education, Training and the Arts contribution equals the employee's percentage contribution plus 7.75%. For example, if an employee contributes 5%, then the Department contributes 12.75%.
Casual teachers receive 8% of their salary as an employer contribution.

The Department of Education, Training and the Arts school year is divided into four terms (or two semesters) with approximately 11 weeks vacation per year.

The Remote Area Incentives Scheme aims to encourage quality teachers to teach in rural and remote schools and to remain in those schools beyond the minimum required service period. It provides a range of benefits to teachers in schools and other educational facilities with a teacher Transfer Rating (TR) of 4 - 7.
