The purpose of this funding allocation is for facilities improvements directly related to the implementation of the Preparatory Year at schools where a cohort of 16 or fewer has been identified.
Schools are responsible for using the funds on facilities improvements directly related to the Preparatory Year implementation. A schedule of indicative improvements has been provided to the Facilities Account Managers, who will assist principals to develop a scope of facilities works appropriate for their school.
It is expected that the funds will be transferred to school accounts in February 2006 subject to an expenditure plan to be submitted to the Prep Capital Program Team by 9 December 2005 on facsimile: 07 3237 0839.
All funds will need to be spent prior to 1 November 2006.
An electronic acquittal form was distributed at the time of the transfer of funds and will be required to be completed and faxed by 31 March 2007 to the Prep Year Capital Program Team on facsimile: 07 3237 0839.

Based on an assessment of existing preschool facilities, the Preparatory Year cohort at a school in this category is to be less than or equal to 16 in 2008. Accordingly, this type of school will be eligible for a 'one-off' facilities improvement funding allocation.
The funds will be provided as a part of the February 2006 GAPS Payments schedule.

The amount of this facilities improvement funding allocation is calculated on a base allocation of $5 000 with an additional $1 000 per forecast Preparatory Year student enrolment. Forecast Preparatory Year student enrolments are calculated on an average of February Census 2004 and 2005 Year 1 enrolments.
