ESL-ILSS is provided for the delivery of intensive English speaking language tuition to eligible Indigenous students from non-English speaking backgrounds.
ESL-ILSS is supplementary assistance that aims to facilitate the entry of eligible Indigenous students into formal education and enable these students to actively participate in classroom activities using Standard Australian English.

ESL-ILSS funds are to be used to achieve the purpose of this programme. Funding is to provide supplementary tuition to eligible Indigenous students to improve the student's English speaking ability. Use of the ESL-ILSS funds is limited to
ESL-ILSS funds must not be used for capital expenditure, including plant and equipment, capital/minor works, facilities development and maintenance, vehicles, sporting and computer equipment.

State Schools conduct an assessment of Year 1 Indigenous students to confirm that eligibility criteria are satisfied and then submit an application. Further information on eligibility criteria and application processes are provided in the Information and Conditions of Grant for ESL-ILSS - refer Policy Reference above.
Annual Funding will vary each year depending on the number of eligible students.
The per student rate is $3,083.00.
