Legislation

The Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (new window) provides the legislative basis for the compulsory participation phase. Chapter 10 outlines the requirements and obligations of young people and their parents. This legislation has replaced provisions previously contained in the Youth Participation in Education Training Act 2003. Please refer to Education Laws for the Future for further information about the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.

The Education (Queensland Studies Authority) Act 2002 (new window) outlines the functions of the Queensland Studies Authority. This legislation is currently being amended to provide for the Queensland Certificate of Education and to incorporate provisions relating to student (learning) accounts. The amendments were passed by Parliament in November 2006 as part of the Education Legislation Amendment Act 2006 (new window) .

The Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 (new window) also supports vocational education and training during the senior phase of learning.
