About SPP

The Strategic Policy and Performance Division (SPP) within the Department of Education, Training and the Arts leads and supports the development of long-term education strategy. SPP provides strategic analysis and advice to inform the decision-making of the Minister, Director-General and Executive Team and oversees and coordinates major research activities across the Department to inform future policy directions.

SPP research activities include:

managing the Department's Research Strategy
establishing the Department's research priorities and ensuring that funded research is aligned with these priorities
undertaking futures-oriented research activities to inform the direction of education in Queensland
driving and coordinating the Department's contribution to whole-of-government, national and international activities
coordinating submissions for all research projects such as ARC Linkage Projects and assisting with tendering processes
assisting departmental officers to access external funds to support research of national and state significance
coordinating research activities that involve external partners and funding commitments in excess of $5000
supporting research-based evaluation of departmental programs
processing applications for research on Departmental sites including state schools
promoting research findings to support learning across the organisation, evidence-based decision-making and strategic policy

SPP Division is the first point of contact for school personnel, inter-departmental officers and research institutions seeking to conduct research within Departmental sites including state schools. It ensures that all research conducted on Departmental sites adheres to the Department's policy guidelines so that the wellbeing of students and Departmental staff is protected, the integrity of learning is maintained at school sites, and the research is beneficial to the Department.
